A template is a shift pattern stored separately from your schedule. Templates are typically used for repeating shift patterns, as they can be applied much faster than re-entering the shift pattern manually.

To apply a template to your schedule, select the cells you'd like to apply the template to, then click "Templates" then the week (or weeks) you'd like to apply.
